academic
I’m doing a CASE-funded PhD in economic geography at the
London School of Economics.
My research looks at the economics of cultural diversity in British cities, in particular their openness to new people and ideas - and how this affects
long-term urban economic performance. The doctorate is due to be completed in Spring 2011.
My supervisor is Henry Overman,
Reader in Economic Geography at LSE and Director of SERC.
Apart from cities and urban issues, my wider research interests include the green economy, migration, innovation, new technology, work organisation and work environments.
policy
My research is co-sponsored by the UK Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG).
I work there as a Senior Policy Adviser a couple of days a week.
I am a Research Associate at the Centre for Cities, which I helped establish in 2005, and sit on the Centre's Research Advisory Board.
I'm also an Associate at The Work Foundation, and
an Associate Fellow at the ippr think tank.
